Poor
Elvis -- his time never seems to come. He should have claimed the gold medal in Nagano, but a groin injury and an incredibly
lucky Ilia Kulik took it away. He has never really been the same, fighting
recurring injuries, and unable to
train or compete at all this season. Despite all that, he was determined to come out in Vancouver
and prove to his home crowd that he still had the goods, making the World
Championships his first season competition.
Come
out he did -- and it was painful for all. He had a dreadful time from
beginning to end, taking numerous spills, enduring his worst placement in
memory, and failing to secure a third Olympic berth for Canadian men. While
Todd Eldredge proved that an "oldie" can still be a
"goodie", this competition made us nostalgic for the younger Elvis. If Stojko competes
Salt Lake City in 2002, it will be his FOURTH trip to the Olympics!
